Hell House

Hell House - Richard Matheson First off, I just want to say that this book is what it is... a tale of horror, nothing more but also nothing less. It does what a horror book should do and succeeds. Unfortunately, I disliked the ending of the book (the very last bit... not the ending as a whole). I enjoyed the psychological aspect of the supernatural. The thought that all supernatural events could be straight from our own minds. Opening up the parts of our brain we don't use and convincing ourselves that these abilities are the cause of ghosts and the supernatural. The writing is very good for a horror book, and conveys some very spooky and grotesque imagery. It does lack something, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what that was. There were a few times the dialogue seemed a bit immature but most of the time overall the writing worked. The story is a good tale... a spooky one that will give you chills and at times upset the stomach. It was entertaining and overall a very enjoyable read and was worth my time. If I could, I would give it 3 1/2 stars but this site doesn't believe in half stars I guess... so 3 it is.
